My program employs a Mindfulness and Positive Thinking approach; and the success of this approach is contingent upon the complete participation and willingness of the individual to view his/her circumstances honestly. These approaches make the individual the instrument of change and control. Mindfulness also promotes a sense of well-being in the individual by increasing awareness of their current circumstances, without judging those circumstances, but looking beyond the challenges and envisioning a lifestyle conducive to happiness. Mindfulness fosters hope and a sense of control over one’s life.
Positive psychology does not focus on deficits; instead the focus is on identifying the client’s personal strengths, creativity, and resources. It enables the client to realize the control he can have over his life by focusing on positive images, and releasing negative thoughts and blame. Positive psychology increases self-sufficiency and reduces feelings of helplessness. Mindfulness and Positive Psychology is about acknowledging one’s circumstances and being able to see beyond those circumstances and realizing that those circumstances are just the starting point in which to begin to set goals for a different life.
